What is general practice accreditation?
General practice accreditation is the independent recognition that an eligible general practice complies with the current edition of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for general practices.

What are the benefits of AGPAL accreditation?
The benefits of AGPAL accreditation, in comparison to other programs, are substantial. AGPAL offers a range of value added products and services designed to support practices through the accreditation process and in their achievement of continuous quality improvement.
AGPAL accreditation benefits include:
- A dedicated Client Service Consultant, supported by a team of Consultants skilled in the provision of valuable accreditation support and guidance, via phone and/or email
- Access to AccreditationPro - AGPALs web-based self-assessment accreditation tool designed to assist practices in achieving their accreditation
- Access to QbAY - AGPALs online library of information, including fact sheets, templates, policies and procedures, guides and links to relevant websites to assist registered practices throughout the accreditation process
- Access to Online Learning - available 24 hours a day. AGPALs online learning modules are approved for continuing professional development points
- Access to policies and procedures resources that may assist practices to establish effective operational processes and achieve accreditation
- Access to special offers, incentives and other benefits, made available by our Executive Partners to AGPAL registered practices only
- An international Health Care Conference, and
- A number of industry related accreditation publications, including Quality News, e-bulletins and other relevant updates.
Who is eligible for general practice accreditation?
If your practice meets the RACGP definition of a general practice – the practice provides patient centred, continuing, comprehensive and coordinated primary care to individuals, families and communities – then you can apply for accreditation.
What does accreditation with AGPAL involve?
There are six main steps in the AGPAL accreditation process:
- Register your practice for accreditation with AGPAL. Following the registration of your practice, AGPAL will provide you with access to accreditation support services and resources.
- Tell us how your practice meets the Standards by completing your practice’s self-assessment, for submission to AGPAL.
- Submit your self-assessment online via AccreditationPro to AGPAL, indicating your practice’s readiness to be surveyed.
- On receipt of your practice’s self-assessment, AGPAL will arrange an on-site survey, conducted by experienced general practice surveyors.
- After successfully achieving accreditation, your practice will receive recognition of your accreditation status from AGPAL.
- As an AGPAL accredited practice, your team is encouraged to ensure quality performance in your primary health care setting is maintained, throughout your period of accreditation.
How can I register my practice for accreditation?
