The AGPAL and QIP Excellence Awards recognise AGPAL and QIP accredited practices, organisations or services who consistently go above and beyond to implement and embed quality improvements, have teams that love to innovate, demonstrate a dedicated approach to patient and consumer services and/or care, and have a clear understanding of related industry standards.

The QIP team caught up with AGPAL and QIP 2016 Excellence Winner of the QIP Chair Health Organisation of the Year Award Excellence Recipient, Bankstown Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre, located in Sydney NSW, to find out about their organisation and what the practice and their team has been up to since winning the award.

QIP: Can you tell us a little bit about Bankstown Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre (Bankstown Physio)?

Bankstown Physio: Bankstown Physio is focused on achieving the best possible outcome for all patients. We are dedicated to providing the most up to date assessment techniques to develop the best treatment and management plan for each individual patient. Our treatment recommendations are tailor made to suit each patient individually and we’ve been doing so for over 20 years.

QIP: Can you tell us how your team felt when you received this award recognition?

Bankstown Physio: It was an honour. It just goes to show that commitment to providing high quality physiotherapy, with the drive to continuously improve upon patient satisfaction, is portrayed by the success of our clinic.

QIP: There was a financial incentive provided as part of the award recognition, how have you used this within your practice?

Bankstown Physio: The financial incentive was greatly appreciated and was used for on-going education and research towards Lymphedema and Hand Therapy.

QIP: Your practice is striving to become paperless, how is this progressing and what strategies have you implemented to support your goal?

Bankstown Physio: Aside from the environmental benefits, being a paperless clinic is beneficial twofold. The first reason is the creation of more usable space for our services, due to the elimination of filing areas and furniture. The second is financial and environmental, as electronic documentation and communications replaces the need to print, reducing the need for an expensive printer, inks, toners, cartridges and paper costs.

QIP: You are very active on social media, what type of content do you share and what advice do you have for other organisations wanting to launch into the social media space?

Bankstown Physio: Social media assists Bankstown Physio to connect with our clients outside of the clinic, and provides a platform where we are able to continuously educate stakeholders of not only our services, but also things like prevention of injuries, and tips on how to maintain their everyday welfare. Physiotherapy clinics should utilise social media as it will increase the image and awareness of their brand.

QIP: What words of wisdom would you offer other practices about to undergo physiotherapy accreditation?

Bankstown Physio: It’s certainly worth the time and effort across all aspects of the practice!
